Hey UG,

Short question here.

Is it true that Dave Mustaine uses an offset tuning? So the low E is actually in between an E and an Eb. 1/4 step bellow E.

On the first two Megadeth albums, yes. In his early years, Dave was really paranoid about people stealing his riffs and whatnot, so he tuned the guitars on the first two albums a quarter step below standard to make it harder for people to learn his songs. He would also do shit like turn around when he was soloing live, so people couldn't see how he was playing his guitar leads

Didn't Dimebag do that too? Not the paranoid part but the tuning part.

Lol, relax dude. Remember also that he indeed was doing drugs during those times too. I haven't heard him to deny that.. However, there are many guitarists who did drugs in the 80's.. So he can't be blamed alone.

Actually, you are both wrong. Dimebag tuned in D Standard (DGCFAD) and then 1/4 step down from that.

And Dave used to use an offset tuning, I don't think he does anymore.

Eric Clapton also used to face his amp when soloing so people wouldn't copy him.

Many people played a 1/4 step down, because casette tapes would raise the pitchs by a 1/4th step...

Blew my mind. Cassette tapes are wicked.

uhhh, calm down man, he DID read them, other guy said E quarter way down, and you said, OR DROP D. In which neither of those are correct as he said, he said Dime used D standard, and then quarter step down, which he did. I fail to see how that is him "trying to act smart."
