As you may know, I've got a 6505 (not a +).

Some special glass items have arrived in the mail today, so I cracked the back of my amp open to find 4 power tubes and a total of 0 preamp tubes.

Where in the name of zeus are my preamp tubes being stashed away inside the amp?

Also, any tips as to retubing the amp? Any precautions to take like? Or is it literally just plug and play so to speak?

Thanks.

Oh, so in other words it would be much safer to have an amp techie to do this?
I don't want to run the risk of me accidentally noodling around in there and getting fried.

Just unplug the amp and you won't get fried looking for preamp tubes. They're inside the chassis as mentioned before, I don't remember if the compartment just pulled out or you had to take some screws out first, but I do remember having the same problem as you when my roommate was looking for his preamp tubes haha They're there though, I'm sure if you google your problem somebody can be more helpful as far as where exactly and how to get to them.

Just don't touch any caps

So I'll be safe pulling out all the tubes and wiggling the new ones into place?

Nothing more, nothing less?

I found the preamp tubes by the way.

Yeah, just don't touch anything you don't have to. I would use some contact cleaner on the pins of the new tubes.

Is contact cleaner necessary? I don't have anything closely related to contact cleaner and all the stores here are closed.

Not strictly necessary, but highly recommended. You can apply it later. It's a good thing to have around, I use it on tube changes and scratchy pots

Thanks for the help man. I was kind of curious as to how this whole tube change process goes, used to seem like a daunting task which only professionals could only do.

Epic hilarious fail thread is epic hilarious fail.

Im so tired I literally thought for about three seconds that someone jacked your preamp tubes. Then I realized you're just a n00b.

Just ribbing, man. Glad everything is where it should be.

So my amp's sounding fairly noticeably brighter than it did post tube change, should I swap the V1 and V2 preamp tubes with the Pentas, and have the Tung Sol's in V3 and V4?

Or a mix of Penta and Tung in V1 and 2 and so on?

I had one for a few years, then I realized my drummers 1x12 Peavy combo sounded 95% as good lol, sold it bought a Pitbull.

Anyway are your tubes the same as what was already in there? If so your fine, If you did indeed switch tube type you may need to rebias.
