I'm sure we all don't agree with our parents on everything. I mean more like political/philosophical opinions or things like that.

Middle aged people definitely grew up in some interesting times, with war, civil rights, and all kinds of cultural movements and obviously they're going to have different perspectives and outlooks than we do. I've noticed older American guys tend do dislike Japanese people a lot. In fact my dad works in construction with a lot of Vietnamese people, and has learned that it can be a very bad idea to have meetings with middle aged American guys and Asian guys together.

But as for my own parents; They're great and good people, but both of them do have some beliefs I don't really approve of.

My mom grew up with a really racist father, and she is a little racist towards black people. I've pointed this out to her and she's gotten a lot better about it over the years. She also disliked homosexuals a lot, but I've argued with her so much about that over the years that she's also lightened up a lot about that. Back in the '80s my mom would watch shows like the 700 club, but luckily I got her to come around on evolution and she isn't a creationist anymore. She's still really religious and christian, but I can't say that I have any issue with that even though I'm not religious. Her religiousness doesn't bother me in the slightest.

My dad is a lot more liberal and , but I've noticed he's just a tiny bit prejudiced towards Jewish people for whatever reason.

So how 'bout you guys parents?

My dad is a closet white supremacist. My grandfather was in the KKK. It's what I'm most ashamed about.

My mother is a fundamentalist Christian. I don't need to say any more.

The other day when I was home the news was on. My mum seems to think that what she sees on the news is 100% accurate, yet when I mentioned something negative about us attacking Libya she passed it off as their propaganda.

That's about it, my parents are pretty smart. Both atheist with no strong political beliefs.

Oh wait. They constantly get at me for my unhealthy lifestyle. As they seem to think a longer, yet incredibly boring life is preferable to a shorter one filled with recklessness and indulgence.

Every single member of my family, besides my brother and aunt, are ultra-right wing fox news nutjobs. It is a real problem.

What pisses me off is when we are in a discussion it always boils down to "Oh well wait till you have house and car payments, and taxes and blahblahblah."

My grampa tells me all the time about how the Jews own everything, Obama is a terrorist, and how I need to make my peace with the Lord Almighty because the end-times are coming, just look at what happened to those heathens in New Orleans, Japan, California, Haiti, etc.

Also, Target is owned by the French (who are all heathen queers), and Ramada hotels are owned by terrorists (because Ramada is one letter away from Ramadan- it's evil Muslim code words, you see).

My family is batshit insane

Oh, my grandfather was in the KKK too.

My Mom isn't racist, just very race-conscious in a hilarious way. Like if we are out at dinner or something, she whispers and race of person she says. For example:

"I really like the shoes that Mexican lady over there is wearing."

-Illegal recreational drugs are morally wrong no matter how they're used, no matter how responsibly. They're illegal for a reason, amirite?

-Both are incredibly religious, and get to a point where they can be crazy about their beliefs. My dad's a Jehovah's witness, my mom's a super-fundamentalist christian. I think she think I'm a socialist anti-corporal punk, but I'm really just moderate in my political views and try to keep an open mind. But I digress.

-Homosexuals... Well, they're super religious. Self-explanatory.

I don't care, but it gets really weird between me and them at times, seeing as I'm a supporter of legalizing drugs for responsible recreational use, am atheist/agnostic, and am bisexual.

not necessarily bad, but my parents believe there is a cosmic force that binds all our souls together in an air like substance, and through acquiring enough of this our minds can shatter through physical matter

of course, that's what you get when you are born in an asian household, but i will let you guys know when i can karate chop cement blocks with my soul

My parents religious devoutness is unknown to me, but I think they believe in God...
They both believe that Facebook, Myspace and stuff are the government's goldmine of information.
My dad absolutely HATES people of Asian decent. I couldn't even date an Asian girl (if I somehow managed to get that far.)

That's about it.

My mom is very gullible, and therefore believes in Roman Catholicism (and gives twenty dollars each week to them), believes in psychics, ghosts, propaganda on the news, et cetera.

Both my parents are also somewhat apathetic politically.

My parents actually have remarkably similar views to my own. They both abandoned religion a long time ago and are quite liberal, and don't have any significant views on race. (My dad makes slightly racist jokes sometimes, but who doesn't, really.)
Unexpectedly considering the norm for people of their age, I'm probably actually a little less biased against religion than my dad. He does have friends that are religious, considering the majority of the population is, it'd be kinda hard not to. But for example, when one of those Christian shows about the power of Jesus and whatever else they talk about comes on, he'll be like "Oh God, it's the followers of the false prophet, someone change the channel."
But it's not really a big deal, he doesn't care what other people believe for the most part, he just doesn't like the way religion proselytizes and influences culture and such. Anyways, I guess I don't really have that much that's actually interesting for this thread, my parents are too cool.

my dad told me in high school I couldn't take german. when asked why, he said that his dad wouldn't let him take german because he served in WW2 and would not have his son learn "the nazi language" and apparently that applied to me for whatever reason.

my parents both dislike technology a lot, although my mom is better (she absolutely loves her kindle to the point of almost never putting it down). my dad on the other hand constantly swears at computers and says that his job as a teacher was better without them. I want to be a computer engineer. problem, dad? /trollface.jpg

otherwise they are pretty cool guy, is laid back and doesn't afraid of anything
