I just picked up a Fender '51 P Bass reissue. When I plugged it in, there was very little to no output and a lot of hum. When I put my fingers on the strings the hum increased. Any idea on what is causing this? I checked the wiring and it all looks alright but I am no pro at that.

Thanks

Im thinking perhaps either the circuit isn't grounded or the wires connected to the the jack output on the bass have come off, either way best thing to do is open that bitch up and look for any wires that arent going anywhere

I'm not sure I remember correctly...but when I wired the output jack on one of my guitars the wrong way (ground where output should be, and output where ground should be) I got the same phenomena.
Pretty much no output, and hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

If you know your way with a soldering iron, just de-solder and switch them around.

I just cross referenced the electronics to the schematic and it looks like a tornado hit there. The output jack looks to be in the right orientation, but nothing else. lol.......
