Greetings all,

I'm investing in a new axe, and I need some help making the final decision. I've paired it down to two, based on tone, playability, etc - the Fender Telecaster Blacktop and a Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet.

I play a lot of rockabilly, jazz, blues, and some weird neo-classical, polka-ish oompa loompa shit.

Based on the tone, I'd go with the Gretsch. But the Tele seems a bit more versatile and a bit easier to play.

Someone help! They are both about the same price, I just can't make up my mind! I know the Gretsch in the long run will be way more expensive, because I'll want to put a pair of TV Jones pickups in there and whatnot, but I need someone to tell me which guitar is really worth the dough.

Neither.

But you can buy me one.

Seriously though. Me personally I would go with the Tele for a few reasons.

1 I know and love the tele sound

2 I hate oversized guitar bodies

3 because of #2 the tele would be more comfortable.

4 The tele seems that it would be lighter.

The only pro's I can think of for the Gretch would be the mini-humbucker sound.

In the end, the only question is: what bass would Jesus play?

I think he's a Fender Jazz guy.

Out of those two, I'd go with the Gretsch. Although I feel that a Squier Classic Vibe Tele would suit your needs better than either of the two.
