Hey, I'm going to be coming into some money soon and I'd like to change the bridge pickup in my guitar, I find it isn't tight enough and overall kind of muddy (it's a JB) and I've been looking around to find a nice replacement.

I haven't tried many pickups so I'd like some help from whomever may be able to.

I'm looking for something that is really articulate and tight, with good low-end presence and rounded mids and a nice High end.

I've been looking and I've found a few pickups that sound interesting

They are:

DiMarzio Crunch Lab

DiMarzio D-Activator

Lace Drop and Gain

Lace Alumitone

Lace Deathbucker

Thanks for your input.

What's your current amp? And what's your budget? Bareknuckle pickups are definitely something to look into.

I recently fitted a crunchlab on my rg520 tuned to drop c (mahogany body ) and honestly i'm really digging it. The description of what you want basically matches how i'd describe it.

I fitted a crunchlab in my new RGA 420z, which is mahogany as well, and I can just echo the above statement.
I tune to standard tuning btw.

Odd. I like my JB in the bridge. It's pretty nice sounding on clean and heavy distortion. And I would never spend $200 on 1 pickup. I have better things to spend my money on, like beer and gambling.

I have my gear posted as my sig, I know the Bugera 333xl's Distortion is a little loose, but I also feel that the pickup is playing a little more loose then I'd like, Thanks for the input too guys.

Oh and yeah, BKP's sound very interesting too, however I don't think I want to throw down the $200's for the pair of them, I've heard great things, but I'm also picking up a 7-string so I have money for a new Bridge Pup, but I can't get away with a $200 purchase.

the 333xl is after the jsx right? i wouldn't say it's distortion is loose.. try messing with the dampening controls?

yeah it's modeled after the JSX, and I have messed with it, but the sound is still a little too loose for my liking and Muddy.

It isn't like it's super muddy and just sludge pouring out of the amp, I just write a lot of really tight riffs and the mud just doesn't allow me to accentuate the riffs in the way I'd like too, being more articulate would really bring a new level to the sound of my stuff.

The JB I have isn't bad, just not what I am starting to go to in the tone that I want for myself.

so I noticed no new posts about pickups and the sounds the have, I was wondering if there was any more input on it, as it were the crunch lab is kinda looking like the go to atm.
I also looked back into BKP pickups and the Painkillers and Aftermath Bridge pups looked very interesting, I'd like some more input before I go through with a purchase however, any advice is greatly appreciated.

okay no new comments, Looking to go either toward the Crunchlab Bridge or D-Activator X bridge, looking at doing it in white to have it stand out a little.

Also recently found something very interesting, a converter piece to make a humbucker to a single coil, as it were when I play I normally just stick to the bridge pup for my metal playing, but also have clean interludes where a single coil sound I find more desirable and am greatly intrigued by the possibility of having a single coil neck and Humbucker bridge set up.

The converter

any input for this idea and the original question are greatly appreciated.
