guitar tone is pretty awful tbh, and there is way too much of the original song to really hear anything either of you are doing

It sounds like either you've transposed your guitar part down from what it was recorded in or the drums are distorting your tone. It might also be a good idea to use an acapella version of the song instead so it sounds a bit better than just playing over it.

I wasn't there for editing, and he mixed the drums and song a little too high. My tone was definitely too gainy for this, too. This was pretty much an experiment. There was little to no planning involved, haha!

If you sort out the recording technique, i.e proper mics/interface it would be a really good cover, just need the quality up
