How to mute the specific strings on the following?
Is it just a case of accrate palm muting?

     Q    E  E  E  S  S E  S  S
E||--3-------3------------------|
B||--3-------3----------1-------|
G||--0----x--0--x--0h-3----3p-0-|
D||-------x-----x-----x----x----|
A||-----------------------------|
E||-----------------------------|

  Q    E  E  E  S  S E  S  S
--3-------3------------------|
--3-------3----------1-------|
--0----x--0--x--0h-3----3p-0-|
-------x-----x-----x----x----|

those notes aren't supposed to keep ringing right? just put your palm down and do the dead notes. might be good to use your fretting hand to help with the muting to get a more percussive sound.

I am trying to do that but just end up muting everything!

Practice practice practice though! Thanks!

Hm. I might be misunderstanding you, but couldn't you just mute everything and only play the two strings?

Try thumb muting? It's quite effective for a lot of things.

Maybe you can try the advanced muting technique that a lot of fingerstyle players use, after you play the strings, slight rest your right thumb on the 3rd string and use the side of your thumb to slightly mute the 4th string. It's very effective.
