Is there a "standard" for laying out pedals on a pedalboard? I mean to try and maintain the true sound of the guitar. thanks

give that a read, it should help alot.
there are no rules on the order of pedals, you can put them where ever you want.
basically follow the list in the link i posted and try mixing them around.

if you got an effects loop on your amp try putting a delay or EQ in it, it sounds great!
