I'm a death/folk metal lead guitarist that just joined a band but all I have is a 15 watt spider 3 (save me). I need something I can gig with, I've been told at least 100 watt, is that necessary?

My budget is about 900(max) and don't really care if it's new or used, I just need an upgrade that will let me perform live without sound like complete shit. (price is a large criteria)

also keep in mind that I'm currently away for school (in San Francisco) and have about 14 more months before I'll likely move and probably will end up selling it when i do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

100w is not necessary, though it is the standard for metal amps.

Peavey 5150 or 6505.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Peavey XXX/3120 if you need cleans. Idk if you do, but better to assume, since you play folk metal. Go used, so when you flip it you will break even or make profit.
