I recently decided to start using one of the pocket watches my grandfather gave me. After turning it for ages to set it to the correct date, I have one question. Which way do you turn to wind it up?

Pic of my watch

You can also discuss pocket watches here if you like

Edit: OMG that pic is huge. One sec.

Edit2: Okay pic fixed.

Pocket watches are cool if you are trying to pick up 80 year olds.

I should go and get my pocket watch actually, it's still at my Grandparents' house, Christening present haha.

I have no idea about working them though.

And I'd say that watch pockets you.

You are awesome. I only know the ones with the winder on the right. You hold it so it's facing you, and turn it upwards. So, basically, clockwise, with it facing you.

Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty.

Whether you need to tighten or loosen it to wind it up is a different matter.

It might have a two or three function winder. Pull out one step to wind, two steps to set hour, day date functions. Don't wind date backward. If it dosn't wind it may be a battery run quartz watch. Take the back off and see.
Now days, with digital clocks in cellphones, I-pads, etc, wrist watches are becoming a thing of the past too. Good luck
