hello UG,

another thread from me...
hopefully this is the last one ;p
sorry that i make this a bit like a VS thread, but i have no other choice, so...

i'm 17, playing for like 3 years and i prefer a upgrade

i play mainly in flames, guns 'n roses, metallica and billy talent, but i will also like some versaility

what's better for my music, the pod HD 300 / 400 / 500 or the 6505+ 112 combo

oh: i have pro headphones, so that will not be a problem

or maybe i need to think about something else?

my current gear is: zoom 9150 multi effects valve ( don't like it anymore ) beginner strat ( stagg ) and beginner amp ( stagg 15W )

my max budget is 500 euro ( but i will go over it a littlebit for smth much better )
i have like 450 euro atm

suggestions will be appriciated

Greetz,

Tunder ( Jeffrey de Kok )

PS: sorry for my english

Ummm you really cant compare both of these whats your budget and as you said You play gnr and metallica
well 6505 aint made for those type of tones its made for modern metal i suggest increasing your budget by 100 euros and getting both 6505+ 1x12 and a hd 300,best of both worlds.....you know

Current gear??

I'm getting myself a 6505 combo this weekend. Them things are damn brutal

Imagine the part of the ballsack where occasionally old poo sticks to the pubes and hardens, and you then have to pull out, but as an amp. That's an MG.

Greatest quote of all time?

I think so...

It's kind of like apples and oranges here. I prefer the 6505+ because it is a true tube amp and drips true tube tone.

I have a POD HD500 and it's the best investment I've done recently.

I have played gigs where I've just plugged straight into the P.A from my POD. Great tones. Bargain price. I've played Metallica style tones through that POD, Guthrie Govan, Country, funk, sparkly cleans... Fab pedal. Get one.

@Tunder Are you on drugs 6505 head bright???? its a darkkkkkkk sounding amp
then what will you call a xxx lemme guess...transparent lul

i'm really the worst in eq-ing, that's why i prefer modelling :$

maybe it was the cab..

i played b-m-t like: 4-6-4 and the presentance and renocentance on 5 and the pre on 4

it was through a marshall 1960 4x12 cabinet
and i played it with a jackson dinky with EMG 81-85's

I know, i'm weird...

i thought the blackstar soloist was darker than the 6505 head

damn :/

The 6505 is known for being a darker sounding amp. With the EQ you posted, you should get a pretty straight forward metal tone.

Ha ha you are drunk
if you are the worst in eq'n never get a pod,you will have to tweak them to death to get a good tone lululul
it took me a while to get out a decent tone from my friend's x3
and do you gig???
#12
i know, my ears are weird XD

also on school, all the tones i like are bad for other XD

i mainly play like: 7-4-7
i love that setting and most people don't like it :S

bleh, going off topic....

i wanna gig, but i'm in no band
and i can figure it out a bit on the zoom 9150.. but that's soooo hard ( working with Hz and dB :S )

what do you suggest?

The POD can do tones very similar to the 6505, and it can get much closer to the inflames tone than the Peavey. I prefer amps, but I have to say the pod is one of the best investments I have done. It sounds really really good, like a high end amp, and is versatile as hell. The feel of it is where it can't touch the amp. It may be psychological, but I don't feel the same connection between my dynamics and the sound, although it sounds like it IS all there really
#16
The 6505 can be pretty versatile. I can get a 70's rock sound to a 80's hair metal tone to a modern deathcore tone out of my 5150.

get a used one You can get a new pod 300 for 300$ and a used 6505+ 1x12 for 400$
i dont have the calculator near me but i guess it wilo be around 610 euros
so save and sell of the gear which you dont use
#18
Out of interest, Id get the HD500. Just curious to try them out, heard only good about them. And their cheap too. On the other hand, a 6505+ is a solid investment.

the xxx half stack goes for 1000 euro :S

and my parents doesn't want me to buy used, too big risk they think... :/

Oh my and your condition are the same the used market in my country sucks too and even my parents think buying used gear is risky
in that case get a 6505+ 1X12 and an amt electronics m-1 preamp pedal google about m-1 pedal and watch its videos on youtube you'l love it
#23
@ Tunder he said that a pod sounds like a high end amp
so he should get a fire shield immediatly
wait till the modeler haters log in :p

It really does. Its the first modeler I have heard that I actually like. I had others, and while they sounded great I always felt the sound was not on par with my amps, but this one sounds up there, and its coming from someone who has, and has had high end amps. Playing on the HD is where the feel is different but the sound is up there, and has the same drawbacks (Very sensitive to EQ).
I also guess it depends on the amp you use it with. I am using it with an evans rig, which has one of if not the best clean channel ever, but even with headphones I insist it has a very very very good sound. I love the 6505 (not plus), but out of the two, I'd buy the POD.

With that said, I consider the 6505 a high end amp. I dont like the combo version, but have never been able to play the combo version outside of GC. I love the 6505 head though. Still id get the pod hd500 though

any real differences between hd300-hd500? as the price is nearly double.

I dunno, the only differences i discover is other looks, looper, more buttons, more holes

I know this is sigworthy but im gonna say:

The high eng amps ( engl, mesa, diezel ) has a lot of buttons and more buttons = more different sounds

300 Has fewer knobs which makes it hard to use apart from that it has less effects and you can use only 4 effects at time as upposed to 500 where you can use 8

The layout of the buttons inputs outputs is more flexible for live use. Things like FXloop are also not available in the HD300. You can also run two amps simultaneously in the HD500 which can get some neat indie rock textures.
