Is there any danger in tuning a guitar in B Standard up to Drop B? Would it require a set up? Different string gauges?

By the way, I play from Drop B to Drop A.

I know it's probably a dumb question, but I need help nonetheless. Haha.

Thanks, guys!

Depends. Tune it up and check everything out. Neck relief should be around .013in when measured at the 7th fret while fretting the first and last fret. Make sure there isn't any buzzing and that the actions comfortable. If it plays fine then you are fine.

You may want to use some lighter gauge strings...

Are you using a standard scale guitar? Or a 27" baritone? If it's a normal 25.5" scale guitar, tuning up to drop B won't hurt it at all. A baritone might be a little different, but it shouldn't hurt it either way.

Thanks for your help, guys; but the guy that was gonna sell the guitar to me ended up selling it to someone else. It was a PRS SE Mike Mushok Model...

One other question (I hope someone sees this)...

I'm looking at a PRS SE Custom 24 (25" scale) for the same three tunings (Drop B-A). What string gauge would you all recommend for playing that low. One guitarist that I know of uses GHS .11-.70's, but I've heard others recommend a .13-.56/.60 set. Any thoughts?

Thanks again!

Edit: Not sure if it matters, but the PRS is the Trem model, not the wraparound hard tail.

I prefer .12-.52 for Drop B.

I prefer that gauge (with a wound G), for C standard.
For B, I'd recomend like, 13-56 (or a 60), just gives the B a little more tension without having it like, fishing cable tight.
