Before everyone goes insane, let me just say that I love almost all styles of music. I'll listen to Miles Davis and then headbang to some Opeth song. My tastes are quite diverse.

Having said that, I just don't get the appeal of "Hardcore" type music. Could someone please tell me what makes this genre stand out? I'm prolly in the corner of the "Drop tunings so low that they should just play a bass/all the songs are just breakdowns" mentality. I accept that people are very passionate about this kind of music, and there are great players out there, but I struggle to grasp the concept.

theres a lot of energy, so its great for blasting in your car really loudly and at concerts.
props to an opeth fan btw

Why is this concept so hard to understand:

Music is subjective.

Yeah, some people will like the same music you like. Some won't.

Some do actually enjoy music like Lady Gaga & Justin Beiber, while some won't leave their metal roots for their entire life.

That's just how music is. You find music you like, you listen to it.

Please elaborate.

As for what bands I'm thinking of, pretty much any band that would normally be mentioned in this forum.
#7
Well to start, if you think hardcore is drop tuning low enough to play a bass and be on the same frequency, not only do you have less than no idea of what hardcore constitutes, but no idea how a guitar works.

...Which is a wide variety of bands, not all of which are hardcore. I mean, you've got BTBAM, The Human Abstract, Protest the Hero, Trapped Under Ice, La Dispute, ADTR, The Carrier, Trap Them, and Converge (by default) all on the front page. Based on your OP, it sounds like you don't really have a grasp on what actual hardcore is.

I think you're thinking of

this

as opposed to actual hardcore such as

this.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Also, I don't see the appeal in miles davis or opeth...
#12
miles davis was genius.

i used to be the same way with hardcore stuff like converge and even the newer stuff like defeater. the vocals were a huge turn off. eventually i got used to them and love them

REAL hardcore stands out because of its passion, its intensity, its common sense and honest approach, its emphasis on effective and meaningful rebellion. It (usually) stays away from 'rock star' attitudes and pretentiousness. <-Note that this is talking about hardcore itself and not post-hardcore, screamo, etc.

Real hardcore has nothing to do with the type of breakdowns you describe, and as others have said, I imagine you have not heard what real hardcore is.

I decided it (edit: borecore) is a good encompassing term for passionless and meaningless bands that already has the -core label, so now I'ma spread it. cuz it rimes and i liek dat

Thanks for the support. What I meant were the down-tuned, constant breakdown type bands. It's just hard for me to understand the appeal of that kind of stuff.
