Hi Guys,

I am going to be getting an unfinished body on Saturday. Problem being that the unfinished body is about 10 years old. It was never treated. I'm told it looks like new but would the wood still be ok for use in a guitar after such a long time?

How would it be affected?
Can I salvage it?

Thanks everyone...

It should be ok - these vintage nuts are always going on about the tone of older guitars are superior because the wood is matured.

As long as its not been lying anywhere damp, which will rot any type of wood, a quick sand will freshen it right up.

frequently, as unfinished boards age, they loose a little humidity in their pores and then the wood 'cups'. it curves slightly. if the humidity goes up and down to extremes then it might crack. if the wood cups, it is not bad, you might need to plane it to get it to be flat. but i agree with smoking jay
