I have a question about my 5150.

The other day I was taking out the amp to retube it and there was this silver piece similar to card on bottom of the shell. It was in shambles, and pretty much falling off. I took it out. However, I heard from a friend that the sheet is necessary and I should keep it in there.

Any truth to this?

Thanks for your help-

Huh?

Pictures would be good, since I have no idea what you're referring to as "bottom of the shell" and "silver piece."

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Sorry, I realize how vague that was.

I pulled out the amp out of the hardshell to retube it. On the inside of the hardshell, underneath where the amp would be there was this piece of cardboard like material that was silver that covered the entire bottom.

Yeah, it's the shielding for the electronics.

Why'd you need to take the chassis out of the amp to retube it?

I've taken my 5150 chassis out several times and I never had any shielding or "silver cards"...
