Des Kensel has a huge drum sound. It's really boomy and as you'd hear it in person.

Gene Hoglan is wicked. How he does that double bass work with those shoes he wears is beyond me.

I loved the old NIN drummer, Jerome Dillon, particularly on With Teeth. I also love a lot of the classics: Brann Dailor, Abe Cunningham, John Dolmayan, Danny Carey, Tomas Haake, etc.

I'm quite a big fan of Circa Survive's drummer, Steve Clifford, and Gojira's drummer Mario Duplantier.

Amplifier's Matt Brobin.

Possibly some of the finest drumming I've heard in a while.
Purple string dampener scrunchy.

Either Darren King of Mutemath, Jeremiah Green of Modest Mouse, or Benjamin Weikel of Helio Sequence. They all have different things about their playing that fit evenly into certain listening moods I get into from time to time, and there really is no substitute for them when I'm feeling it.

Recently I just came across Morgan Rose, of sevendust. I saw him play at soundwave in Australia and I was amazed... He isnt the most talented drummer of all time (He is definetly talented though), but he is quite unique, and to be totally honest, just the way he plays live amazes me, which is the main thing that caught my eye... Just very smooth and cool.

My choices woulr def have to ab Aaron Gillespie from Underoath, Daniel Williams for Prada, and Angelo Parente from Motionless in White
#91
A quite unknown fellow called Brian Downey from Thin Lizzy. Lets just say that there's a reason why Thin Lizzy never changed drummers, even though the guitarist changed quite often.

Jimmy Bower of Down, simply for live and from live videos. down is probably my favorite band, but i like the ultra-natural drumming he adds to the band. he doesn't play a single note when it isn't needed, and plays a heavily driven minimalistic but heavy as hell hard hitting (and heavey hitting) killer show.

i really used like Jason Bittner of shadows fall because he is a good drummer, but the amazing thing is that live, every single nauence of his playing was 100% identical to the album. just perfect, and he puts on a good show too. too bad Shadows Fall went downhill

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Igor Cavalera
Vinnie Paul
Chuck Profus(He's not incredibly technical, but anyone who can drum an hour straight of Agent Steel has my idolatry)

He has to wear those huge boots to slow himself down, or else he'd play so fast he'd set his kit on fire.

He wears 3 pound weights on either foot whilst playing any sort of show, also, usually taken off before a particularly blistering tune (Shitstorm by SYL being an example, mentioned on his DVD)
