Hello

Ive seen so many alt picking help threads, and yes i created one myself..... although they are offering the same repeated advice!? With the great help here, i managed to get things going with my technique and started to accomplish alternate picking...

As there is so many threads i thought of having just ONE thread offering advice and techniques to players, in one convenient thread.

Maybe this could be stickied.

Im not expert at guitar, but they way i got my alt picking down was to:-

a) Slow down and play smoothly first then build up speed, to a metronome

b) Study your picking hand and maybe try a different way of holding your pick, try curling first finger round and hold pick between this and thumb (worked for me)

c) Study your fretting hand, is it synced well to your right, try finger dexterity excercises. Fret 1234 up and down strings hammering these off until you can play up and down neck smoothly and cleanly!

d) If you get stuck on something come away put guitar down or play something u can play well, then come back this will help.

e) Try a different plectrum, Jazz 3s are common picks among shredders.

Hopefully this can be added to over time, and we can accumalate a vast range of ideas and excercies.
Theres also a great Lesson here http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/guitar_techniques/how_to_play_fast_-_hyper_speed_picking.html

yeah but ppl cant be assed to read that, if its a long read thru people dont bother anymore, hence why all the repeated threads..

Its hardly extensive either, this way we can gather techniques, which might help people.

Just thought this would help thats all

So what makes this thread so different?

I applaud the intent but it's not going to do any better than the stickies.

Still suffers from the same problem as the other stickied threads though: if they're not going to read those they won't read this and if they have a question that's not answered there it won't be answered here either anyway.
