I've been playing for about a year, but recently decide to start practicing seriously. One technique i really wanted to learn was galloping, with the end goal of being able to play something like the intro to Rain by Trivium. At the moment im just practicing by doing gallops with a metronome at a set tempo for a minute, then adding a couple bpm and repeat, then go again a bit faster the next day. Is this the best way to practice galloping, or am i missing something?
i'd also play some songs with galloping (e.g. Rain) or at least use a drum loop, it gives you a better feeling for the whole thing. You should also pay attention to your hand. it should stay relaxed while you play, that makes the whole thing a lot easier. i kind of use the "rebound" the pick gets from the string, if you know what i mean
