Anyone have any tips on writing music and lyrics for writing a musical?
The two main inspirations musically will be styx and the misfits.
I wasn't sure if there were any rules I should follow or what.

I've never written for musicals and I don't particularly like them, but I can't imagine it being any different from pop songs or whatever you like to listen to. What's unique about musicals is that the music is there to help tell the story, which might be the only thing really different than just writing songs.

The thing about writing songs for any genre is to just be familiar with the sounds and lyrical content, but of course there's no rules to any of that. So if you're familiar with the music of styx and the misfits, and understand what your producers or whoever want to pull off lyrically and emotionally, I think you're all set.
