Hey!

It's been a year or so since I bought my first acoustic, an Art&Lutherie that I paid 200$ or so. I had alot of fun with it and it was a great learning tool, but now that I tried my friends' guitars I really want to step it up and buy another slightly better guitar.

My budget is aruond 600$, give or take. I could go higher if there's something really amazing. I went to the local guitar stores, had a lot of trouble making sense out of anything..The guitar that sounded the ''best'' to my ear was a 400$ Chinese Takamine. I tried a few thousand+ guitars just for fun and frankly couldn't tell the difference so bear with me, I'm far from a pro.

Anyways, I was presented with quality products and two guitars really stood out. I want to know if any of you guys can shed some light and maybe help me make a choice. The two guitars I liked the most were from two different stores so It was hard to compare them. Here they are :

1. Norman B-50

http://www.normanguitars.com/b50.html

It looked incredible, I was told for my budget it was the best they could offer. 648$ With a nice case. Tax included

2. Seagull SWS Rosewood

http://www.seagullguitars.com/productmaritimeswsrwsg.htm

I also liked the looks of this one, the sound was really powerful and I could feel the guitar vibrate on my body. 599$ + Tax with no case. I was told by the salesman that the B-50 I was looking for was a great guitar but that the RANGE of it was much smaller since it was maple, and that rosewood had the biggest range. (That's probably guitar lingo for you experts)

So these are my top two choices, I'm open to suggestions. Note that none of 'em have pickups, I don't really need any as of yet and they just bump the price by 150$ for no use.

THANKS!

I'd personally go with the Seagull for a plethora of reasons, which I can't get into now because I'm far too baked and far too tired.

I'll probably post back again later, but I'm sure people are going to mention the same things I'm going to.
Sincerely, Chad.

I have found that price range to be limited in choices but, I agree with Chad. Seagulls never disappoint.

i prefer the lam b&s seagulls to the all solid models.

btw, i'd get one of these
http://www.maurysmusic.com/blueridge_solid_body_guitars?b=1
this is maury's all solid blueridge page, so all the guitars on it are - yup - all solid. beautiful rich sound, nice finish, i'm very happy with mine but have played a lot of the others. you'll notice there's both a mahogany b&s and a rosewood b&s version for within your price range assuming we're talking u.s. dollars. you can also get blueridge guitars at mf.

if you were willing to go up a little, you could get a guild GAD-25 for not much more. also all solid, beautiful sound, stunning finish, very well made.

I just looked in my Oxford English Dictionary and under "Acoustic Guitar", there was your Avatar and an email address!

eastman does have guitars in that price range, but i believe that their low end models aren't actually made by eastman. the two i tried weren't as wonderful as the actual eastman models.

I'd still like for someone to tell me about the Norman, or why the Seagull is so superior.

They are both made by the same manufacturer, Godin guitars.

I'm leaning more towards the seagull myself but the Norman was a really awesome sounding /looking/feeling guitar.

Get the Seagull. I have an S6 and it sounds amazing for the price.Plus you'll be supporting Canadian workers vs. China slave labor

if you like the norman more, get it. what you like is the bottom line. me, i would rather spend the same money on a better sounding all solid guitar - either a blueridge or the GAD-25, but everyone has different tastes.

i've only had a&l and s&p to compare to the seagulls, and the seagulls sounded better - probably different bracing.

Really looking for someone to give me the pro's and con's and not just tell me Seagull is the best ever. The Norman B-50 seemed like a good alternative I want to compare the two here.

Anyone has any insight?

Trust your ears. Take a guitar playing friend with you and do a blind test. Get whichever guitar sounds best. It's all subjective.

Good idea...shame they are sold in two different shops.

Actually, most humans who would be classified as having "slave" conditions are children, who are sold by their parents in the countryside, or simply stolen from them, to gangsters and thugs in the city, who basically send kids to go beg for money as their scam. The government is trying to get people to stop giving money to them, because their owners just take it all away and use it to buy more kids. So, sure the kid is going to get beaten up by his owner tonight because no one gave him anything, but at least the owner won't buy another kid. It's a sad situation. Also, they started a website that would photograph the beggar children so that parents who lost their kids would be able to find them. Well, eventually they noticed those kids didn't show up for begging anymore (meaning their owners would kill them if they ended up on the site).

That's slavery. Guitar shops are where people are actually paid as adequately as would be expected in Chinese society specific to the area. Get your facts straight and stop applying America-Goggles to the rest of the world. I've actually been to China many times, and while it's a developing country, it's not the barbaric land Americans like to believe it is.

Edit: PS, China has fewer imported sex slaves than the US does, per population density. At least China beats America in the "Don't kidnap women from Europe and force them to be raped repeatedly, sometimes being sold as torture meat" Competition.
Sincerely, Chad.
