This is intended as a spoken word piece, so please imagine this being told to you with all the emotion a 17 year-old poet could muster.

I'm just a child in body.
These arms too thin and this mind too free
To call myself a man.

But I know what waits for me.

The girl I love will leave because i'm too busy working.
Too many times I have seen men fall victims
Into coffins for money and divorces.
My rich friends will stay rich,
Be unfairly taxed and my poor friends will die early.
Their children will scream as their father
leaves with the forces to fight in a war
Only the government endorses.

My ignorant friends won't question
why Muslims must die and Christians must protect the Earth.
As if it's an Islamic America that:
Invades countries illegally.
Drops Nuclear Bombs on civilians.
Embargo's any country that employs communism,
as if Marx wanted to murder babies, not let them live a more human life.
Sterilises it's indegenous people
and enslaved blacks for centuries.

My children won't know the hypocrisy
when the media tells them Islam is disgusting
because it doesn't let women wear what they want.
Whilst simultaneously perpetuating a view of beauty
so unattainable that women kill themselves because they don't live up to it.
As if they ever could.

I know what waits for me.

I know that at least a few of the women
I go to school with right now will be pregnant before I leave.
I know that my sexual education wasn't nearly good enough
and I go to a good school.
Dear God, I pray for those in bad schools.

I know that many of my friends will vote Conservative
and then wonder why public spending to help the poor is being cut.

They don't know that when a conservative says he wants to "Help people",
He means himself and the corporations that paid for the advertising
to get him into Parliament in the first place.

I know that my children will aspire to be astronauts or doctors
In the fleeting moments where their minds like water
Can flow however they want and fill every inch of their being.

It's sad that we as adults lose that.

Imagine a life with me where
our children are free of mind.
Taught the truth and taught it well.
Not indoctrinated against people they don't know
from lands they are told wring red with blood.

Imagine a life where every man isn't afraid of love.
Where we can express ourselves to the women
that enrich us every day. Hold us when we want to cry
but never do because we're told we can't.

Straighten up, be a man, fight your own battles.
Even Ali had a corner man.

Life isn't a game for 1 person to play.
Snakes and Ladders are only slain and climbed
by the noblest, most beautiful thing on Earth.

Men standing next to, not in front of their women.
Like Brothers and Sisters regardless of race, religion or class.

Humans will one day realise that we are one people.
Not even divided by distance, for we all share 1 Earth
And we live close to each other in our thoughts, and hearts.

I know what waits for me.

"Now Listen

Not a dime, I can't pay my rent
I can barely make it through the week
Saturday night I'd like to make my girl
But right now I can't make ends meet

I'm always workin' slavin' every day
Gotta get a break from the same old same old
I need a chance just to get away
If you could hear me think this is what I'd say

Chorus:
Don't need nothin' but a good time
How can I resist
Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time
And it don't get better than this

Say I spend my money on women and wine
But I couldn't tell you where I spent last night
I'm really sorry about the shape I'm in
I just like my fun every now and then

I'm always workin' slavin' every day
Gotta get a break from the same old same old
I need a chance just to get away
If you could hear me think this is what I'd say

Chorus

You see I raise a toast to all of us
Who are breakin' our backs every day
If wantin' the good life is such a crime
Lord, then put me away
Here's to ya

Solo

Chorus (2x's)"

its too gloomy and depressing D:
technically, theres some good stuff in there
but its far too cynical and pessimistic

i like the positive message towards the end, but man, why not write happy stuff?

the lyrics are from Poison's "nothin but a good time" btw, i thought it had a nice, upbeat positive attitude towards the world aha

keep writing bro, you got talent. just maybe go for lighter, happier subject material perhaps?

peace \m/

Why not write happy stuff? Because most of it is bullshit. It's okay to not be happy all of the time. If you're so determined to be positive, you should consider the fact that you won the cosmic lottery and were born in the first world. That right there should be enough reason to stay happy for every second for the rest of your life.

Instead, people are "crushed" when their relationship with their "true love" doesn't play out just like every Disney movie said it was supposed to. People think they need to "treat themselves well" because they "deserve it." It's ****ing disgusting. If you live your life with the preoccupation of simply being happy all the time, you may as well just pick your drug of choice, get messed up on it, and never come off.

BTW, TS, you had some good parts in there, and the idea behind the piece is good, but it really needs some refinement. But really not bad for a 17 year old.
We're only strays.
