Divided by 13 RSA31

This is /13's take on the ever famous Vox AC30. Like the amp its modeled after, the RSA31 has a 4x EL84 power section and is cathode biased class AB1. However, the RSA31 features a mid control that allows the player to change the voicing of the frequency (from very pronounced to scooped). The bass on this amp can be very over the top and can get muddy quickly; however, its easy to dial back. I keep my bass control sitting on 1 or 2.

The RSA keeps faithful to character of vintage voxes, while imparting a slightly modern twist. At 30 watts, the amp is quite loud. Thanks to the half power switch, I can leave the attenuator at home with my 100 watt monster. The famous Vox chime is present; when coupled with an open-back 212 cabinet and Alnico Blues, folk rock and British Invasion tones are readily available. The overdrive is closer to a Marshall than a Vox -- its too compressed and more aggressive than classic AC30s. I quite like it, though.

Its built like a tank. I gig regularly without a backup amp.

The RSA31 has replaced my AC30 HH as my favorite amp ever.

Also...NGD!

Its a Ric 620 and it replaced my 335 as my go-to guitar. I <3 Rics. Totally looking to pick up a 360/12 within the next month, thus bringing my total to 3: 325, 360/12, and 620.

Enjoy!

Thanks! I was actually looking at your Bruno UG30 pics when I was deciding on an amp. They played no small part in swaying me. AC30s are easily my favorite amps ever, so I take these things to heart.

Yea, the Brunos are The clips I've heard aren't bad but the %13 stuff is more readily available and built better for a reasonable price and Fred's customer service is great. I guess they don't sound too shabby either.

Weird. I was just thinking about how I'd never seen a NAD post for a Divided by 13 on this forum before. But yeah, I was playing one of these recently at a local boutique place. It might be my favorite single channel amp that I've ever played through. I definitely intend to own one at some point in time, despite my better judgement in terms of finances...

It captures the clean quite well, but the overdrive is a hybrid of Marshall and Vox. I don't need a compressor with this -- the RC Booster mixed with the amps natural compression does the job.

The chime is there is spades, though.

Nice amp. You don't see a lot of Divided by 13 amps on these forums. Enjoy it!

very nice gear as usual, it's always nice to click on a colin617 nad that's for sure.

Happy new amp day Colin! I haven't ever been able to try any /13 stuff, but I've heard great things about them. And judging by that gutshot, they are built to high spec with really neat wiring!

I'm trying so hard, dammit!

PS I am working out a part two to my Things I've Learned thread from a year ago. My first year as a professional musician has been eye opening. I'm doing well enough to be buying /13 and CAA!

About time you had another NGD! You always have the best ones.

HNGD, I'm extremely jealous of that guitar/amp.

I'll see what I can do. The monster rack rig sits in a studio practice space and is a bitch to move. The RSA and all my guitars live at home with me.

Yeah. I got another PT-100. I needed a really versatile amp to center my studio rig around, so I picked the CAA and a TC Electronic Rack EQ. Super versatile rig!

About 2x as much as a new AC30.

By your description I'm sure it sounds pretty badass.

The scale is 24 3/4, but the nut widths are narrower than most other guitars, so the strings feel closer together. The necks actually play quite fast and I imagine would be great for someone with smaller hands.

Lead work isn't difficult on the Ric. It isn't as easy as it would be on a Strat or LP, but the difficulty of it is greatly exaggerated. The lead sounds kind of remind me of a tele...ish.

Great choice in a new amp sir.

If you ever look at some speakers, I like the combo of a blue type speaker with one of the Weber Silver Dogs. It keeps the classic AlNiCo blue while complementing the Marshall Tones that some of the "vox clones" can get.

And nothing is better with a Vox than a Ric or Tele.
