Okay, I'll go straight to the point. There's something I don't quite understand that's been bugging me and I'm pretty sure the answer is simple.

It's common knowledge that Stalin and Hitler as leaders of their respective countries were what you could call arch enemies, because communism and nazism supposedly are...yeah. Arch enemies. What I don't understand is; communism is a form of socialism. Nazism is short for national socialism. How can they be such opposites if they both seem to be socialist ideologies? Now I am aware that nazism is a fascist ideology, but why is it then called socialism?
