So I've pretty much found my perfect tone on my Class 5 that sounds good at any levels but my problem is that in order for me to use it in a band/gig setting I have to crank it. It still sounds great but as the nature of the beast goes the louder I get the more clean tones I lose.

To solve this problem, would using extra cabinets allow me to play louder with less break up? Or would I still have the same level of overdrive but now it'd be louder? I'm pretty sure I already know the answers already, I just wanna run it by you guys to confirm.

Also, what would you guys recommend as extension cabs for it? It's got a 16 Ohm output so I figure a 2X12 configuration would be good. I skimmed through the specs on some Orange and Vox cabs and I think they might do but I'm not sure until I try it out. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance, you guys rock.

just make sure you get something with a pretty efficient speaker(s).
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

No unfortunately it won't. It won't even be much louder it'll just be pushing more air giving the illusion to your ears of extra volume.

How well does it clean up with your guitars volume knob because you can always use that. Chances are it wont be Fender clean but it'll be passable.

As far as cabs go I would recommend orange. IMO they are the best Chinese mass produced cabs out there at the moment.

^Orange cabs are made in the UK except for one or two if I'm not mistaken.

This.

Can you tell us what exact speaker is in the amp? If it's a fairly efficient one already, hooking it up to 4x12" or something won't make it much louder (though it would change projection and bass-response, which might just be what you're looking for).

nah if you get more efficient speakers (assuming the stock marshall speaker is low efficiency, i have no idea if it is or not) it'll definitely be louder. Not just an illusion.

Now, of course it still might not be loud enough.

As has already been stated, more speakers =/= more volume.

If you're already rocking something with 100dB efficiency, like a G12H30, there's pretty much nothing else you can do.

It's not really an amp that's intended to be used unmiced in a band situation, and at 5W unmiced cleans are totally out of the question.

don't think so... unless the new one does. I thought the old one had one of those "custom made by celestion jobbies.

Which normally means, "custom made to be as cheap as possible".

I think it's the 1x12 and 2x12 that aren't?

And doesn't the class 5 come stock with a V30 already?

Not sure about the 1x12", the open-backed 2x12" is made in China, the closed-backed one in the UK.

Pretty sure the C5 comes with 10" speakers.

The combo certainly does.

That's exactly how I get my cleans it just still isn't loud enough as is to compete with a bassist and drums. Thanks though.

As far as Cabs go I was looking at the Orange PPC212-C, or maybe the Vox V112HTV. If I had the money I'd get a Vox V212HWX, but I'm pretty broke at the moment.

And again, thanks everyone for the advice.

A 5 watt amp will not be able to compete with a drummer full stop. No mater how many speakers.

number of speakers doesn't matter. an extension cab won't make 5 watts louder.
5 watts is 5 watts is 5 watts.

switching to a more efficient speaker will give you an increase in volume but 5 watts is 5 watts.

It's still going to breakup.

What's going to end up happening is that your going to have a louder breakup.

true

which is pretty much the same thing as being louder.

You're still going to have little headroom, but the breakup point will occur at a louder volume.

Redundant post is redundant?
