I downloaded Avast a couple of days ago because I had no anti-virus on my computer and today I've been starting to have some problems with it. On most websites I try to go on I get a message that a threat was detected and the site just doesn't load. This is happening with sites like Wikipedia, youtube, and a lot of the top search results from google. UG is one of the few sites I can go on for some reason.

I've been going through the settings on avast but I don't really know what I should be looking for.

Has this started happening in the last hour?

Because I get the same thing, it says the infection is "HTML:RedirME-inf" on most sites I go on [canv.as, facebook, reddit, my Uni website!]. It just started happening, but not for UG.

EDIT: And wikipedia and youtube as well.

I got home about half an hour ago and that's when I first noticed. I've got a paper due tomorrow also. This is the worst possible time to start having internet issues.

Then we have the same problem.
We've either been infected by something that is redirecting us, those sites have been infected, or avast is being a dick.

I'll see if the same problem occurs on my other laptop which also has avast.
EDIT: Other laptop is fine. I guess we're infected.

I've just started having the same problems now..

Gona do a malwarbytes scan and see what shows up.

Are you sure?
My other laptop is working fine with avast and doesn't have this error [although, the web server is returning a 403 error so may not have updated to this newer version causing these errors].

I'm sure. Its the latest virus definitions. Your other computer is probably on an earlier set. It happened as soon as I updated the definitions.

As long as you stay away from porn sites until they fix it you'll be fine.

^It's seems true.
I've just done a malwarebytes scan, and my computer isn't infected, so..

I'll just wait a while, though I cant stumble or anything.

OK, I'll take your advice. Maybe that's why the avast update servers are offline and forum inaccessible.
I did a malwarebytes scan and it found a single trojan, but I don't think it was related [or high risk]

My second laptop managed to just download the newest virus definitions, but my main laptop gets a 403 error.

What about everyone else?
EDIT:NVM, updating now.
