When I plug the guitar into the amp, the amp makes the usuall fuzzy sort of noise, but when i pluck the strings it is not sounded through the amp like it is not plugged in.

Broken input jack possibly, possibly the connection on it or maybe it's just broken altogether.
#5
try a different cable, then a different guitar, if it's still not working then the amp is the problem
#6
you need a new amp.

In my experience that's usually a bad jack, either on the guitar or the amp. That's happened to me before. You get a crackling sound when you plug in, or if you move the cord around in the jack while the amp is on, but no sound when you play.
Current Gear:
2002 Gibson Les Paul Standard
'57 AVRI Fender Stratocaster
MIJ Fender Jaguar Special HH
Marshall JVM410
Vox AC15 C2
