Looking at getting a mesa cab, but I can't afford to spend $1000 on the 4x12, so for half that on the used market, I'm looking at 2x12s. What exactly is the difference between the two? Would it be able to keep up with a 4x12 in a band setting?
Kodiak bears make awesome bandmates.

The cab size has virtually no effect on the volume it produces.

Bigger cabs tend to sound "fuller" though.

2x12s are equally as loud as 4x12s. They also tend to sound tighter due to the small space, less speakers moving.

4x12s have more bass because of the larger cabinet enclosure.

Get a 2x12 - much easier to move/lighter and cheaper. Unless you really just want the visual of a 4x12 on stage.
