Anyone have any experience using the Boss DD-20 with the Boss FS5U footswitch for tap tempo?

I'm looking into buying one really soon, but I'm not sure if it will work the way i want it to.
Basically, I want the left switch to always act as an on/off switch, the right switch to always be able to cycle through the 4 presets, and then the external footswitch to always be able to be used a tap tempo.
My main concern is, to switch the pedal into tap tempo mode normally, you have to hold down the right footswitch for 2 seconds, thus disabling the ability to cycle through the presets. I wonder if it has to be in "tap tempo" mode for the external footswitch to work properly?

sorry for the wall of text, and help would be appreciated!
