This happened at my old high school, along with others in the school district (see link below). Texas has had some budget cuts, most infamously in education, and a lot of teachers statewide have lost their jobs. Bad news for my sister as she's a student teacher and graduates this semester, so she might have a hard time finding work.

http://www.examiner.com/k-12-in-houston/katy-i-s-d-high-school-students-protest

If you don't feel like clicking (it's kind of a biased report anyway), hundreds of students walked out of class in protest of the layoffs. Not just my school, but high schools, middle schools, and I heard even kids as young as eleven. Was it moral, right, heroic, retarded, etc.? Don't know. Feel free to discuss.

However nothing that exciting happened while I went there. The most interesting thing that happened there was my old science teacher getting arrested for child pornography.

Exactly.

There are tough budget cuts being made, and their protest is to waste more money?

And you think you're so clever and class less and free

I think they also just changed the Texas education curriculum again for the worse too. Poor fellows.

So, wait... You want to go back to school, so you can walk out of school?
Meh, it was just something kind of noteworthy and stuff. Nothing really out of the blue happened when I went there.

I mean, I'm not being incredibly literal when I say that, like I actually wish I could travel back in time or reverse my age or anything.

My school district is pretty much bankrupted and about twenty students did that a few weeks back.

Complete idiots as far as im concerned.

That seems a lot more interesting than the protests if you ask me.

Well then they suck, if your idea of a good time is reliving a highschool day just to not _actually go to there_

This. If you remember anything from high school, you should remember that most students don't give a rat's ass about the teachers.

I think we pour too much money into education for a majority of students who frankly don't give a ****. I know, I was one of those students. I think I've learned more in the army than I did in school...

Aww man, I thought this was going to be a nostalgia thread. I am disappoint.

OT: I walked out of school once, because the 6th formers were allowed out to protest the war in Afghan, (fack me that's years ago now) and the lower years weren't but we all broke out through hedges and over walls and stuff. Everyone else went back for last 2 lessons, but me and a few mates didn't realise and went and got fish&chips and got high by the river. Detentions for a week, but well worth it.

Yeah, kids don't actually care about the situation. They just want out of school.

There. Now that's out of the way.

It happened when I was in middle school actually same sorta situation there was a strike and whatever. Long story short I agree students of that age will take any reason to skip class. I kind of sympathize with them because recently in a post secondary I paid to go to, a similar protest took place in me and my classmates refusing to attend a particular teachers class.
So I guess while I do not support people protesting for no reason I do support them fighting for something they believe in that place and time.

Around here, "protest" means a chance to not have to go to school and be a rebel instead.
I wouldn't even join the strike, because I don't want to be a part of the dickheads yelling idiotic things at policemen who are trying to help them.

Twenty-nine teachers at my school are being laid off after this year. There hasn't been any protesting or anything like that for Humble ISD... yet. I doubt there will be. If there is, that's cool, but I won't partake. Mostly because the majority of these kids don't really care about this anyway.

Kinda sucks though. One of my favorite teachers is getting the axe.

All we have had here is parents bringing their kids along to protests concerning the closures of some schools. No walk-outs, at least not yet.

Lol at people coming to the stunning conclusion that most students just want to get out of class. No shit.

The cuts suck though, my mom might lose her job next year because of it, though I dont think she particularly minds lol
