hey people,

On my strat I have 11s (strings) at the moment and it is in Eb Tuning.
Now I want to go to standard tuning again, but keep the 11s.

So there are 3 trem springs in the back at the moment in this formation: \|/

But I guess 3 won't be enough for 11 gauge strings in standard tuning, so I bought
5 Tremolo springs (medium strenght).

So my questoin basically is: How do I change the springs correctly? Do you losen the strings beforehand or just keep the strings tuned to pitch? And do you only change 1 trem spring at a time? I also wonder, if I'll need 4 or 5 springs.

Also can I just leave the strings on and tune them to standard tuning or is it better to change to new strings, when changing the tuning, for whatever reason?

detune, replace all of them at once, retune.

thats what ive always done

if you try to keep the strings on they will pull the bridge up

id take this opportunity to get some new strings just because you have to detune anyways

possibly, 11's are a bit of a stretch though

10's are tight as hell in E standard for my taste

I used 4 springs with .11 gauge strings in my Strat in E tuning. It was good for me. 5 was a bit too much.
