Looking to get an 8 string, an Agile Septor 828 http://www.rondomusic.com/SEPTOR828mnnatsatinash.html, or an amp, not sure which one yet. (Most likely will do yet another a "what amp thread")

I will be getting both sometime soon, just dont know which order.

What amp do you have already?
Great guitar + shitty amp usually = lousy tone

in your case, based on what you already own, I would say new amp. not only will a new amp help you get the most out of what you already own, it'll help you get the most out of the 8-string when you get it (your current amp would suffer at the hands of the 8 string)

You can play metal with 6 strings. I know, it's not well known, but it's totally possible. Get an amp.

Why does every guitar player feel the need to have extra strings? I dont understand it. I'm not bashing or anything I just don't understand it.

- But yeah get an amp. It is the better investment.

It depends on what guitar you have. If I wanted another 8-string, then I'd go for the new amp (first on my list). If you don't have an 8-string yet, then go for it. Nothing more fun than a new instrument, and besides, the amp does nothing if you don't have the proper instrument that you want to play through it...

I really don't want to be a smart-ass, but I didn't say I wanted to play metal.

I think I'll go with the amp. I already put some money on it, so may as well I guess.

You can play genres other than metal with ERGs. I know, it's not well known, but it's totally possible.

I'd say get the guitar. A new amp opens up new tonal possibilities, but an 8-string guitar opens up a whole new register for you to play in. New notes, new voicings, new possibilities. An amp just builds on what you already have.

yes, but...

Guitar + no amp = being able to practice
No guitar + amp = having an amp
HILT!

Where's Waldo?

well you can buy a pos small solid state that sounds exceptable to practice if you want to make that arguement. but still, get a great amp. even if you have a mediocre amp, combined with some decent pedals, tubes, and a great speaker, it can make all the difference.
