The new rock and roll manifesto...one mans opinion that you should feel free to disagree with

Problems: Our culture as we know it is doomed because of several issues including the following:

America’s government no longer operates to serve the people. We have failed to make any progress in regulating the banking and financial industries that caused the economic recession of the past decade. America’s government is no longer America’s voice; our leaders are controlled by lobbies from both sides of the spectrum and no longer govern efficiently.

Western culture no longer represents freedom. Over 100,000 Iraqi citizens have been killed since our campaign to spread freedom began in 2002.

We have become idiotically polarized. Liberals have got so caught up in accepting everyone the left now aligns itself with governments that violate human rights. Meanwhile republicans are so afraid of socialism they forget that everyman is entitled to a good life and that we sometimes have to look out for each other.

One in four people suffer from one or more mental disorders, yet there still is a negative stigmatism associated with what is clearly normal human nature.

For the past four years, over 750,000 people have been arrested each year for possession of marijuana, a drug that has yet to been clinically proven more harmful than cigarettes. Meanwhile every year 75,000 deaths can be related to a legal substance, alcohol. Our country has some priority issues.

Little good has come from mainstream rock and roll in the past decade. The genre that represented change, freedom and honesty, no longer does, has sold out and is being split into metal and pop.

Conclusion: the world may end soon so we most rock out whilst we still can. It might no longer be popular but anyone who can sincerely rock in any way has a responsibility to be part of rock's last stand.

Please help revive the spirit of Dylan, The Beatles, The Doors, Black Sabbath, The Dead, Cream, Floyd, Marley, Zeppelin, The Who, Rush, The Clash, The Pixies, The Beastie Boys, Nirvana etc etc etc and lets change the world back to normal and rock back to awesome…here is a start http://www.myspace.com/amphibians/music/songs/new-day-i-feel-alone-26799488

Feel free to edit and repost, change is all that matters (im such a whiny hippie)

EDIT:
1. thank you for disagreeing with me...maybe i just need to see the light

Since when is America's oil crusade the fault of the entire western world?

The same cigarettes responsible for 500,000 deaths each year? What a comforting thought.

You think Rock is the only genre that represents change?

Also, since when is Dylan Rock and Roll? If you claim that, then I say rock and roll is still very much alive.... IN FOLK MUSIC, which would mean that rock isn't the only genre that represents change.... thereby killing your argument

That was the top song on the Billboard 100 in 1969. The year that gave us Yellow Submarine, Led Zeppelin, the Velvet Underground, Deep Purple, and more. But that's the number one song.

That was the number one Billboard 100 song in 2010. The year that gave us Brothers, Diamond Eyes, and the grammy winning The Suburbs. Yeah, grammy winning.

Rock has never been at the absolute top, and never will be. That's kind of the entire point of rock music. Get out of your "I wish I was born back then" phase of being a teenager and realize that you have all that music plus amazing music today.

Don't remember disco? Or the entire 80's? How is that any different from now? Just enjoy the music that you enjoy and don't worry about what's "mainstream". Who cares?
The day people forget that you have the freedom to make any kind of music you want to is the day you should be worried.

That song is bitching, what's your point?

The point is that that song isn't rock and roll, and even in an era which OP claims was better for music, the 'popular' music still wasn't rock.

EDIT: I can't believe I'm taking this seriously. I'm going to go listen to some 60's bubblegum pop now.

If this is so important to you do something about it. Music doesn't accomplish shit, you have to go out there and make things change. Enough of your Rock and Roll bullshit. Contact your local congressman/representative, work to get a bill passed. As it stands you're as useless as the left/right wing extremists you bitch about.

Music itself did not create all that social change.
It was the musicians themselves that created awareness of the need for change in some aspects of society.

OP is so full of nostalgia that he forgot to use any form of logic in his argument. politics has absolutely nothing do to with music. And don't talk shit about cigarettes and alcohol. Weed is for hippies and jam bands.
