I've been asking many people this question, and I thought it was about time I consult the pit with this. I know many people where I live call it a cart/shopping cart, but a girl that I'm good friends with insists on calling it a buggy. So, Pit, what do you call shopping carts (the pushed ones with wheels, of course).

Buggy?

I didn't know that British people lived in South Carolina

That's what I was thinking, but apparently it's normal to call it a buggy in 'the south'.

People in the south say buggy, which I find hilarious. It's a shopping cart.

wat

I can't see a correlation. No one calls a shopping trolley a buggy in the UK AFAIK.

I think England and all commonwealth countries (NZ, Australia, etc.) call it a trolley. Except maybe Canada, dunno about them.

Actually I don't call it anything you put in the poll, because English isn't my mother-language.

I call it "ostukäru"

I just did a google image search for 'buggy'. Didn't see a single picture for a shopping cart (or whatever). Lol.

The first time I ever heard the word "buggy" was at a grocery store in Charlotte, NC, which is right on the line of north/south carolina.

I didn't know anyone else called them a 'buggy.' I always thought my Dad just started calling them that and I picked up on it.

My guess is; that this is due to the fact that they are called trolleys.
