I'm not a fan of SG's and the Strat comes w/ alot more for a better price. And it looks more like my Ibanez Super Strat.
I'm so happy. I get to eat a muffin.

That's tough. I already have an SG so I should get the Strat for some single coil tones BUT I'm not really a fan of the image Strats have and I could use a Gibson. I'd probably just flip a coin, and best 2 out of 3 is the winner. But that's just me.

I guess it dials down to what you want out of your tone.

those faded SG's are addictive once you get the feel. they feel a little odd at first, but once you get used to the feel, the sound really nice.

the only way i would go for the other option would be if the fretwear was really bad.

I would go with the strat because it sounds cool. I mean, you really didn't super describe the SG like you did the strat. Plus the strat comes w/ a case. Haven't tried the Texas pups yet but I hear they suit many styles of music. The only thing I don't like about strats is that they don't have humbuckers (they do make HSS but that isn't really the standard). And yet the SG has two. If the SG came with a case and was new, then that would be a different story.
#7
I'd go with the SG because I don't have a guitar with humbuckers at the moment and some variety would be nice, and for slide for some reason I prefer humbuckers.
#9
Well it would depend on my current gear and the sound I want and such.

I have a Strat with Texas Specials so it'd be silly to get another, so I'd pick the SG for that reason. But again, what are you going to be playing?

EDIT: Also below poster is right. It's definitely a steal!

Deluxe Players Strat 1000 TIMES OVER!!!!

Those are FANTASTIC guitars, with very good necks, and the Texas Specials are a favourite of mine (I have them in my MIA Fender standard). All that for 300 is a steal (new texas specials cost me 200 or thereabouts) and getting a hardshell case as well, thats too good to be true.

Do it NOW, before I find that deal and buy it instead lol.

i like strats i like single coils the strat is cheaper ,new ,and it come with a hard case

you sold me on it

In response to the "Didnt describe the special enough". It's just your stock special faded SG. Nothing changed. Good responses thus far : D

It's a tough one. Depends on what style you play. Strats are great guitars though, and my guitar teacher uses one for anything from blues to metal. If you already have a good humbucking guitar, then a single coil equipped guitar would add a bit of versatility.

If you don't like the sound you get out of it, you can always swap out the electronics and turn it into a H-S-S or H-S-H super strat.

Personally I would get the Strat and mod it over the SG, simply because I don't find the SG anywhere near as playable as a Strat; Fender definitely got that aspect right.

What do you play?
#17
It depends on the kind of music you play
If you re gonna play it distorted most of the time, the SG sounds alot better. If you like playing clean the strat sounds much better.

i'd buy the strat. Personally. I hate how the SG sounds clean, but distorted its AMAZING. Distorted there's just no competition the SG slaps the crap out of the strat.

Plus the pick ups they come with are awesome, it does this thing where if you start picking harder the sound gets more aggressive. Ive never seen any other guitar do that. Thought it might have been the amp it was plugged in.

I'd take the strat because I prefer 25.5" scales way more than 24.75", its way more customizable, I like the shape and neck more, and I hate Gibsons because of how easily they break. A strat won't break, and it comes with a case regardless. Theres just no contest in my eyes.

I think you're getting better value for money with the strat, for less cost.

yeah, that's what's known as a good amp.

ts, get the strat. ****ing steal.

This is really apples to oranges. I would get the Strat because it's a better value for the money and I already have a Gibson, but if you want humbucker sounds get the SG. They're completely different guitars. They're both excellent.

But yeah, the Strat's a much better deal. The two guitars both go around $700 new, and I'd take a mint $700 guitar for $300 over a beat-up $700 guitar for $400.

I'd have to see them both.

Can't really make a decision on words alone.

Really it comes down to feel and whether you want humbuckers or single coils, since the SG is basically a HH Strat with a set neck and a control scheme that isn't shit.

I think the deluxe strats are better built than anything gibson builds with the word "special" in it's name. Sometimes you get a good Special but they tend to have problems. The deluxe strats tend to be great and it's rare to find a dud.
