I was wondering what you'd have to do to obtain the masters from a record label for the purpose of learning, studying, and remixing. I didn't know if you had to go to the label and pay them a fee for the song to use it to remix. I'm also not sure if the band chooses someone to remix and whatnot and can only do this if the bands okay with it.
If anyone knows, could ya'll point me in the right direction?

And if this is thread is in the wrong spot, please feel free to move it!

I don't think you can go to a label and just buy the masters from them. They retain those for monetary gain and legal rights.

If you look in the right places you can find multitrack files of songs pulled from guitar hero.

They are extremely expensive, not viable to buy them.
Trent Reznor i think looked into buying his old tracks from the label, and you just can´t.
