If anyone watches comedy central in england, have they noticed the subliminal adverts, i dont have sky+ or anything so i cant pause and read what they say, but i thought they were harmless until i read what they actually said.

In the first picture, it says breed with caution, time to panic in red

I'm pretty sure that's very blatant. Not subliminal.

Awesome.

Seriously, how am I meant to react to this?

Edit: Oh, and bus drivers are arseholes, I agree with CC.

Edit2: And surely that much text is far too fast for the brain to comprehend.

wait... how is this subliminal?

I assume they flash for a fraction of a second.

I don't watch comedy central but I might just to see if I can spot some.

I thought they were banned or some shit?

I believe subliminal messages were banned around 1958. They are still present, though.

when you're watching it, you can only see the red words because its literally for like half a second

Well to be fair, they have a point. You should breed with caution.

What are the adverts supposedly advertising? someone must have paid to put them on - but who?

Also subliminal messaging has been proved to not work - the original study in the 50s was eventually admitted to be a fake.

Here's one source :http://muse.jhu.edu/journals/asr/v006/6.4unit03.html
part 2 of the article

"we were forced to come out with subliminal before we were ready. Worse than the timing, though, was the fact that we hadn't done any research,"

Reading that one, and the fact it's in the comedy central colours, is making me think it's just a joke.

Chances are, TS, if you picked up on it without slowing it down, it's not subliminal. I also don't get what it could mean, do they hate babies? Is this is the Chinese commercial?

There was also a Charlie Sheen one with all his quotes about Tiger blood and winning during a Two and a half men marathon a couple of weeks back

There's also one about buying a new fridge.

If messages are subliminal, are they picked up? Studies say they aren't.

Found the quotes on another forum, here's a couple bolded bits show in red on CC:

Why do they advertise fridges? Who doesn’t have a fridge? Are there thousands of people staring vacantly at an empty space in the kitchen next to the washing machine surrounded by rotten food? We have all worked out by not that milk doesn’t last long at room temperature, which in itself is odd because a cow is quite warm but then again, yoghurt is just gone-off milk and most people like yoghurt. Maybe we’re missing a trick. Maybe we should all throw out our fridges, wait for the food to turn and see what wonderful culinary surprises await us. Might stink a bit though...

If you are reading this then you have passed. You are not part of a cultural elite. You have transcended the shadowy World of the flesh, rising from the ashes of society like a shimmering phoenix: beautiful, iridescent and empowered. This is not about creed, religion nor cult, mealy that you have seen past the gossamer veil of the superficial and uncovered the truth. Now the World is yours for the taking. Grip it, squeeze it for all it’s worth and let the juices drip down your throat. There is nothing you cannot achieve in your luminous radiance, except fly. You cannot fly. Don’t even try, it’ll end in tears.

i know, most of them are harmless, but that one that says about breeding is particularly strange because of all the conspiracy theories of living in an over-populated world.

Do you know what a conspiracy theory is?

It's true that we're heading to an overpopulated world though
