Roland Cube 20, 20X or 20XL?

XL is the most recently released. X is the one before that.

I'm a student. I've got no time or space for an amp!

Ugh. That's a tough one. You might find a used Line6 Flextone for 200 quid, which is as good a high-gain amp as you can hope for without spending some serious cash.

Otherwise, I'd recommend you save up and wait for good deals to come along. High gain amps tend to be pricey, and there's not much of a point in buying an amp that is only marginally better than your Spider, because you'll probably get tired of it pretty soon as well and will crave something better still.

I've seen some Laney VC50s go for around 250 quid, and some Peavey XXX combos for around 300 or so. The Laneys are also pretty easy to find in the UK. There's also small tube amps that have some serious gain on tap, like the Jet City JCA2112. Look out for a used model.
If you won't be able to get enough cash for amps like these in the foreseeable future, I'd say Flextone all the way.

Roland Cube 40XL, you can practice with friends (maybe do small gigs) and it doesn't sound half bad.

More features than the 20XL too, although it is £185

Roland Cube 40XL, Peavey vypyr 15/30, Blackstar HT5.

Try them out at a shop and see what you like. Can't go wrong with any of them for a low range amp

Although a Roland Cube/Peavey Vypyr/Vox VT, will all be better than your spider. They're not going to be a huge margin better. Like Quailman said I'd wait until you can get about another 100, or hunt for deals on some better amps like the flextone, vetta, peavey tube vypyr, Peavey Valveking, Jet City JCA 2112. Not quite sure how all those amps price out in Europe, but they should be around your budget give or take 50-100.
