I really don't get it.. Unless they are meant for creative individuals to develop a full piece around? But said musically-inclined individuals would be able to derive the melody from the song easily, making the above point moot. Just wondering.

Tabs are user-submitted, and not everyone will work out every part of every song. Some people just want to play the melody.

they're for beginners generally... something to ease them into playing with out the need for quick chord changes and confusing hand positions

Made for beginners by beginners. You're telling me you can't remember when you learned the single note melody of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in the wrong key just from memory? That was a huge moment in my musical career, this is pretty much that.
