Okay, so I've noticed a lack of threads discussing the hardest riffs ever seen... so here is one.

My personal choice would be in Megadeth - Take no Prisoners shortly after the break where Dave REALLY speeds up. It looks something (nothing) like this:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--4-x-4-x-4-x-4-------------------2-3-2--------------2-3-2-----------
--2-x-2-x-2-x-2-0-3-0-2-0-2-5---------5-2-0-2-5---------5-2-0--

^ I'm guessing that probably came out looking like absolute crap, but you may be able to get my point. At the speed he plays it, it's just crazy.

I really don't like this thread to be honest.. There's no "hardest riffs ever".
It all depends on the player. Every individual generally specialises in some sort of playing so they grow accustomed to certain riff styles. I for one can play most metal / rock riffs, but give me some sort of difficult blues / classical shit and it might take me forever.
Stupid thread. That's just my opinion however.

It's not a stupid thread. Nobody finds 'Paint It Black' hard to play, and absolutely nobody masters Scarified instantly.

I think he's referring to the people that just write their own style with disregard to either of those.

The thread's about well-known riffs. What, is he assuming WE know how the **** HE writes/plays?

TS isn't really clear. Does he mean 'hardest' as in most difficult to play, or hardest as in having the biggest impact?

Tottally agree with this. My friend plays metal rythem guitar which I find impossible to comprehend. On the other side of the spectrum, I play virtuiso/lead metal (PG, Vai, etc) which I find quite simple but he finds impossible.

Meshuggah - Bleed. You need some really damn good stamina for that. It would be worse on bass.

Edit: err... not bass. I mean drums.

Theres not one hardest riff, it depends on what people are good and bad at to determine which will be harder for them.

I don't know if I'd call this "the hardest" riff ever, but it's taken me a great deal of time to recreate this riff myself.

And I should note, when I think of "riff, " I think more of a rhythm type sound, not a lead-lick per se.

The opening riff to Immortal's "One by One."

I normally don't have any trouble picking up metal riffs, even very fast thrash stuff. But this one has a lot of subtleties that make it quite difficult to re-create accurately. Try it, you'll see. Part of it for me was the reverse power chords - my fingers just didn't want to make those shapes...

Megadeth- Poison was the cure (if you regard that as a riff)

Though, what one person finds difficult the next person may find easy, and vice versa.

Im not sure I quite agree on Take no Prisoners. Its just a practice thing, there are many similar riffs out there, and once you have one down the rest come quickly.

There's a lack of these threads because they are indeed a stupid idea.
