I see a lot of people asking for advice on gear and I see they play blues.

My first thought is... blues? What the heck? That music sucks?

What/why do you play blues and how would a person that plays blues convince someone else to play?

Thanks.

If you have to ask then you just wont understand

The blues only sucks to people who can't appreciate the classics.

Aka Justin Bieber fans....

In the end, the only question is: what bass would Jesus play?

I think he's a Fender Jazz guy.

Pretty transparent. TS might as well have said "dude, I play blues but don't know how to get others involved...can anyone here help?" Sounds like a blues player who's ashamed of it (for whatever reason) and needed to lay down the (weak) insult to appear more bad-ass.

Wait, you mean people PLAY guitars?

What, you mean people PLAY?

Sorry, just had to.

You are what they call a “rhythm guitarist”. While it's not as glamorous as playing lead you can still get laid. Especially if you can sing and play.

Blues let to rock and roll, rock and roll lead to hard rock, hard rock lead to heavy metal, heavy metal lead to thrash metal and so on.

Many pop styles also have a strong blues influence.

Zakk Wylde, Kirk Hammett and many other big name players have influences.

I was hoping this thread would be an opportunity to bitch about this, actually. Like how every metalhead here asks, "Hey, what kind of amp should I get? I play mostly metal like Metallica and Ozzy and some blues"

I have to say I'm kinda disappointed.

yeah, you also get idiots who think blues is "anything where you just slowly work your way up and down the pentatonic scale" and call themselves blues players because they are actually just not very good guitarists so they say they play blues because they think it's easy and they'll get away with being crap if they call themselves blues guitarists, rather than actually putting any work into actually getting better at guitar.

and then, because of idiots like that, you get idiots like the threadstarter asking "why would you play blues when blues sucks?"..
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.

I'm going to bring out a cliche name right now, down't smite me for it, but Dimebag Darrel is probably one of the best known metal players of all time and the backbone of his playing was blues. Riffs, solo's, groove, everything.

Like the great Marty Friedman once said... "You can't call yourslef a lead guitarist unless you can play the blues"

Check out Joe Bonamassa if you need convincing.

This is what comes to mind when I hear the word "Blues", personally. That, or deriviative works. I hate this image of white guys in tuxedos on cruise boats, playing 4-chord blues with white strats. Not that there's anything wrong with 4-chord blues, or white strats...or boats or tuxedos for that matter!
#29
lets see....led zeppelin, jimmy hendrix, the doors? yeah who wants to play some blues every now and then. i guess power chords are way cooler than all those rock and roll bands. or metallica, ac/dc, rolling stones, oh wait if i keep going i'm going to list every legendary band ever.

This thread has really strayed from whatever it was meant to be
And it's kind of typical that Metal gets bashed from out of no where
You can call metal fans scum in general but tbh everyone who stereotypes and mocks it are up themselves music snobs
Try that for a stereotype

You can like other types of music as well as metal
