I got this Gibson Les Paul a while ago and I'm just wondering what model it is. If anyone can help me it'd be appreciated. According to the Serial Number it was made in 2002.

Depending how you got it, I'm going to assume either: The previous owner bought a blank truss rod cover to replace the original one (for whatever reason, purist etc), making it probably a standard), OR, you've got a lovely looking genuine fake.

However, most standards were issued in the past with blank TRCs (until they started making traditional, deluxes, reissues etc), so its safe enough to assume from that.

Can't you get the model info from the serial number?

The finish is trans-amber not honeyburst. I don't think I can get the model from the serial no. I've tried looking.

well a good way to check is you take off truss rod cover or the plate in back because a gibson and chinese fake are very notciable in differences

oh and also heard while back a give away sometimes is the screws in truss rod, fakes seem to use 3 and legits use 2, not sure how reliable that is since ive never really gone and inspected fakes to reals but best of luck that its real would be aggravating to get a fake

It's not a fake. It appears to be a Standard with a nice top. MAybe an LP Pemium if they made thos that year.

Plays nicer than my Custom Shop Strat so if it's a fake, it's a fairly ****ing good one.

I always thought standards had scratchplates?

^ not always.

what is the serial number? it could help determine the year, the year can help determine what model it is based on what was built that year.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Not always, some model years came without them
