Hi guys, I'm planning on going to Vietnam in September.

It's the first time I'm travelling this far, and I was wondering if anyone has some advice for me. like places to visit, where to go out, some cool spots etc.
Or some practical advice and personal experience?

I've seen some things man... and some stuff... I wouldn't recommend it!

You are EXTREMELY WRONG! I have played it. I own an 18W and it would be an awful stereo amp, it's way too bright, breaks up too easily and so on. Secondly, why would a guitar store sell an hifi amp.

Did two tours in the '60s... the things I saw man... nights lit up by fires and thunder... kids lying down on the sides of the streets with their legs blown off... bulletholes in every car... my best buddy's blood flown into the mud.

Go to Khe Sanh. Tell Johnson I'm sorry I haven't come back for him.

I've been to Cambodia but not Thailand but my friends who went said that Ha Long bay is pretty nice.

Some advice from my experience in south east asia is that if someone is being nice to you something bad is going to happen.

Also my friend got robbed by someone on a moped. They grabbed his wallet drove round the block then came back and gave it back minus the money.

I remember 'Nam clearly. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn’t find one of ‘em, not one stinkin’ dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like…victory.

I got the shrimp fishing boat... I finally got it. Bubba would have been proud of me. He was always talking about it in Vietnam. Funny enough, Lt. Dan became first mate.

I will never forget the friends I made there.

I did what I had to do to win! But somebody wouldn't let us win! And I come back to the world and I see all you maggots at the airport, protesting me, spitting. Calling me baby killer and all kinds of vile crap! Who are you to protest me? Who are you?! Unless you've been me and been there and know what the hell you're yelling about!

I could have killed 'em all, I could kill you. In town you're the law, out here it's me. Don't push it. Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe. Let it go. Let it go.

Well sure, but by the time they figure it out, it'll be too late, because they'll be in the grip of a horrendous, PTSD-induced flashback. YOU THOUGHTLESS MONSTER!

John, the war is over. Just admit what you did, and we can work this out. But you can't stay in my town.

I've been there a few months ago to adopt my little sister, and I hope that you're prepared to face a very different culture. Also, be wary of the season you go, as the film Forrest Gump was right about the rain you could find there (My family and I were lucky to go there during the dry season). Beware the rickshaw drivers, we got scammed real good by some in Ho Chi Minh city, and don't eat the food they try to sell you on the streets, because our wimpy Westerner immune system won't handle it that well.

We've found that Hoi An was a great place to visit, and Hanoi wasn't too shabby, either. It helps if you are neither American (I guess you know why) or French (Vietnam was colonized by the French some time ago, and they did not forget it as of yet). Of course, being French-Canadian, my family and I were often mistaken for either one, so we always had to explain were we came from to raise fewer eyebrows, although I've found that the Vietnamese people (not to that I want to generalize, but...) are very kind in general, so as long as you don't go around waving an American flag in everyone's face, you shouldn't get into trouble.
Some people use quotations,
Some people are just perverse,
Some people have ironic machinations,
But I'll just break into verse!

I had a friend who was held at gunpoint as a cashier. The robber told him to give him all the money in the register and what not. Apparently my friend then replied, "Would you like a slurpee with that?"

Here's what Forrest Gump had to say about 'Nam.

"Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don’t go home at all. That’s a bad thing. That’s all I have to say about that."
