I want to do stuff to help my finger strength and endurance and improve solo speed and everything. I know these two things are very similar, the Vargrip you can change tension and the other you can't...any differences or anybody have some advice?

practice more. no need to buy a tool that does what you essentially do with practice..

besides, i don't remember where i read/heard/saw but apparently those things will actually make things worse. just need to remember where

Building strength in your fingers isn't really a good thing. Its the same concept with a drummer who thinks he will play better by bulking up. Mass does not equal speed and it will probably detriment your speed. There is no substitute for hands on practice.

Yeah TS, just practice, practice and practice.

The best thing to do is get a routine in with your practicing. Not just wanking around for a few hours.

Powerballs are supposedly great for lightly toning your hands, fingers and arm muscles- said to make a noticeable difference for musicians and sports-persons! I've had one for a year, just cba to use it

i love my varigrip that my friend gave me.

i can see it more useful for people who constantly fidget and this habit is made worse by guitar. its maybe something cool to occupy your hands when fidgeting but thats about it for me

Honestly I just use one of those foam stress balls. I've been doing a few sets a day for a few months now to supplement practicing better technique and I've noticed a pretty big difference so far. Freepower here on UG has some good lessons on finger independence, might want to give those a look.

You don't need that much grip strength, but just constantly tapping your fingers is good for stamina.

I do that, and variations, all the time.
I also tap my feet a lot.
Yeah I'm one of those.

I do 6+ hour long jams (with breaks of course) with friends all the time and my fingers never get tired.

And the Gripmaster does come in Ultra light.

Last year I fell asleep in a chair with my arm in an odd position. I woke up and my left arm was numb. Basically hand NO strength in my left hand. Couldn't play for about a month.
Screwed up a nerve or something. The doctor said it was some kind or Palsy thing (I forget the full name).

I used a Gripmaster (ultralight one) and my hand strength improved rapidly.

lol...how exactly did Fleshlight get brought up....jesus guys...

back to the relevancy of the thread....dont buy either...i owned a varigrip when i first started and it doesnt do much...honestly just practice for a while and your finger muscles will get stronger...

HONESTLY and all jokes aside, i got the same exercise from playing Guitar Hero on expert, that is the only way i could ever say Guitar Hero actually helped...

i had a varigrip..it broke. the little tension things you press down on, the plastic part snapped and it shot right out of the grip. i have a gripmaster now and i like it better. Though, you might be interested in the GHS handmaster. It'll getcha tired pretty quickly as it exercises the tensors and flexors(if thats what they are called) muscles.

since when are people at TGP practicing?

try refinishing cars, that improves finger strength.

or the varigrip.
