A lot of you have seen my Tim Tam cookie tin amp with the 5F1 Champ built inside, well it's time to make the next one. Not Tim Tams this time - Jack Daniels. I have an old Jack tin 20cm(8") x 27cm(11") x 10cm(4") on its way.
I could build another Champ into it but I could also go a bit bigger with this tin, say a Princeton. I think an American amp would be more appropriate in a Jack tin.

I learned a lot making the Tim Tam amp, things I wouldn't do again and suchlike. I might even sell this next one. So I guess the question I'm asking here is this, "what would you like in a cookie tin amp?"

Blues Jnr? Interesting. I was thinking more in the vintage end of town tbh. When I said Princeton I had a Blackface in mind.

Phil, Indeed, I'd need a tardis tin.

There have been some changes to it since then. The little circuit board was replaced with a turret board I made. I added a switch to change the heaters from 12V to 6V and another to cut the NFB resistor in half.

I'd never split the build between lid and body again. All on the lid or not going in.

slash's amp? send it to slash, he'll put it on top of his amp as a charm or something if he has any humor.

Aren't they doing a 5W Slash amp? What would be in that? (assuming it's not just an MG )
An American amp seems more appropriate and it's an old tin so a vintage clone is really what I have in mind. But the Slash/Jack link does justify a Marshall. Is that all the excuse I need to justify building a 1972?
Did I just see a rationalisation run across the floor??

Guys, i can't be building a huge amp in a small tin. It all has to mount to a 8" x 11" lid. Anything over about 20W needs too much iron.

Bugera Sherbert.

In all seriousness, maybe try for a bassman? Although a blues jr. or princeton would definitely be pretty BA.

Do a sunn amp clone. Some of their models have pretty simple circuitry, don't they?

Believe it or not, I thought of that tin amp over the weekend...

I was at the inlaws and Grandma had a Johnny Cash CD box set tin... and thought that would be an inspiring box for a low watt amp...

i like the princeton idea, but you already have a fender tin.

Supro, Swart, Reason Bambinio, something cool like that.

Bugera Sherbert is a very bad idea for a cookie tin amp.

You'd practically be building a mini nuke.

no BS cath. a valco design would be nice in that tin.

edit: a cool old chicago amp that you should have no prob finding a nice, small one to fit in the tin.

plus, i just saw greg recommended a supro as well... and he is never wrong

magnatone, danelectro, univox, or an old ampeg design would also be pretty yummy.

instead of in a tin, you should do it in a proper cookie jar. I dont know how you woud do that but im sure it could be done and it would be awesome obce you were finished.

or like this

That amp in a can...

I have one of these that I want to rehouse a Smokey Amp into:

Almost the perfect circumference for the speaker... may only need to sleeve the can with a bit PVC tube glued to the inside or just cut into the lid.

Unfortunately it is only 7" tall by 2.25" wide... but one of those 5L mini kegs would work for what you suggest...

EDIT: Come to think of it, I found four cans similar to this in the attic insulation. 6.25" tall, 2 5/8" wide:

I aint building no stinking SS amp because of the container.

If I'm going to sell it then a well known classic would be the way to go I think. A Supro or something would be a fun thing to have if I intended to keep it but something the hoi polloi would recognise would be better marketting.

Jimmy's Supro was a 1690TN Coronado. Those are a dual 6L6 amp - too big. I'd rather not stoop to Blackstar style marketing.
