To use guitar rig 4 do I need a good sound card and a usb interface or just one of them? I've already tried hooking my guitar up to my alienware m11x laptop with a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter and it sounded like it was changing the pitch of my guitar and there was a little static. So what can I do for a $100 dollars to have decent sound quality?

Get a USB interface. I used a Toneport for ages till it died on me and i decided to get a real amp haha. I've seen Behringer ones go for like £10

You just need an audio interface, they act as sound cards, you do all your monitoring from them. If you just want an interface exclusively for guitar (no mic pres or anything) the line 6 ones go for cheap and are decent quality.
