I've set up a Twitter account @UGAmplified. Stay tuned!

If you would like to write for the zine, say so here and pick a topic.

Regular posters from each of the major Pit threads are welcome to contribute, but anyone can put forward opinion pieces on a recent news item or general topic.

Comic artists and short story writers have the chance to show their work, and if you have a good original riff or lick on guitar/bass/drums/keys/vocals, you can submit it in tab or standard notation format.

We're also looking for a designer to make the zine look good. It will be in PDF format, and the designer will collaborate with the editors to fine tune the layout as well as producing the overall style of the zine.

About

IRL = In Real Life. Write about a recent news story or any field of knowledge. Be clear and balanced in any argument.

Thread Report - if you are a regular in a major forum thread, give us an update on any thought-provoking discussions that have transpired.

Contests - apart from the official UG contests, there are also user-based ones going on in the forums. The organizers of them can write up their results to feature in the next issue.

Intros - write an introduction to a genre or band, highlighting five important albums.

Reviews - of a CD, DVD, live tour, book, movie, etc. Must either have been released in September-October 2011, or be significant to a genre or society. Include your recommended tracks/parts, and suggest further listening/reading/viewing.

Design - we're always looking for designers. If you have what it takes to produce some stylish page templates, head to the design thread for discussion.

Comics and Artwork - we need to bring some colour to Amplified, so if you've got something good tucked away somewhere, feel free to submit it (so long as you have not given another publication exclusivity).

Let's get the ball rolling!

I'm going to start a Pit tabloid instead.

All pictures will be in black and white, and it'll have nothing but smut and rumors.

I'll model for the front page.

I'm up for editing articles. I used to do this on a regular basis for my college magazine for like 3 years.

However, i shall contribute from the next issue. I'm somewhat busy the next 2 weeks.

I could write an article about weed every day.
This is why I don't like arguing on the internet.

Please make a 'vote for our name' competition. The Scene is awful.

As noted in the last thread, it's a working title.

If people suggest others I'll make a poll.

If you could put together a piece on legalisation or drug culture, that'd be swell.

add sports.

Could you write for sports?

The list above is just some of the topics you can choose from.

could I interview UG users for it?

What about?

For short story writing, given the length of the e-zine, are you looking for one per issue or one (per writer) per issue? Because 3000 words seems a lot for one issue.

One per issue.

If three people submit for the first issue, one will be chosen and the others kept for consideration in the second issue.

Okay, I assumed as such. I'll have to add the other fiction writers and discuss it more.

Also, are continuous pieces allowed?

Although, thinking about it, it'd be hard to keep some semblance of continuity with different writers every issue.

I could possibly do some short stories/poetry. I'd also like to do something Sociological or Psychological if possible. If neither of those jive, I could edit; I was the fiction editor for my high school's Literary Magazine.

If you've got a series going on another site, or in a profile blog, you can submit your first in the series and direct readers to the rest. Unless of course you've got exclusivity with that other site.

I'm going to start my article, I'll try to keep it relatively simple.

Do you have a preference of text format?

Thanks

Just type it up in a word processor and I'll edit it as the layout design comes together. Font etc. doesn't matter so long as it isn't Wingdings.

Standard stuff, bands they like, info about them but if I were to do someone like chuckles I could also ask him about the lessons he's doing for the zine and stuff. I didn't mean a huge in-depth interview, more a little Q&A with members.

If you can get a few entertaining interviews out of people, you can have a series.

I will do a review of DEP's "Calculating Infinity", If that's acceptable.

Actually, I could do an ongoing series of reviews for albums. And I could take requests. This seems like a good idea, considering it flies.

If we have reviews, I want them to either be of recent albums or of significant past ones, giving more scope than a random review. If you can put Calculating Infinity into the context of a genre's development or social events, then go for it.

If you are the only one submitting reviews, then you can have a series; but if others also submit reviews, then they will be mixed with yours.

Okay.

Anyway, its kind of a long stretch, but Calculating Infinity is a landmark in mathcore music, And caught the eye of Mike Patton, who let DEP in on a tour with his band. I think I've said too much.

That being said, I'm okay with any type of music. So I have no problem with reviewing the latest Foo Fighters, or Creed album.
