I am having some trouble listening to time signatures in songs. For example are there some tips for me to able to listen to them in a song? I have tried to get the beat, but according to me..all are 4/4 time. I know its not right though. Any tips?

most songs are actually in 4/4 so you may be counting correctly. Try counting beat on a few Dream Theater songs.
EDIT- try to count the number of beats after which a pattern repeats.

I want you to listen to these examples, and try figuring the time signatures out. the answers will be at the bottom of this post, but try before reading. If you cant figure them out, look at the answers, and then try to count with the answer in your head.


Money - 7/4
Take 5 - 5/4
Knights - 12/8 - This one is a bit harder, because the accented notes make it sound like 4/4. However, in that 4/4 beat, there are 3 notes between it. You could count slowly, 1 2 3 4, but its really 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 very quick. It gives you both a 4/4 feel, and a 3/4 feel
