I'm looking for a new amp and have a couple of suggestions.

1. Roland Cube 80XL (80 watt transistor, 12" speaker)

2. Ibanez TBX150R (150 Watts / 4 Ohm, 2x 12" speakers)

3. Line6 Spider IV 150 (2x 75W, 2x 12" speakers)

4. Other?

I aim to play in my bedroom, but also with my band and some live gigging.

I would stay away from the line 6 as it sounds very digital. Peavey vypers are a solid amp and pretty cheap. You can even get an all tube stack with the same effects built as the solid state vypers. Remember watts on all tube can get a lot loader (and better) sounding than the same amount of watts on solid state.

1) budget
2) styles
3) why so much power - you won't need it, you could get much more for your money if you spent it on a smaller nicer amp.

The cube's a pretty good amp. Nice amp simulations, makes it super versatile.
Tube amps do sound better IF your budget suddenly expanses. Cheap tube amps are just terrible

What a crock. You can push some good tones out of just about any tube amp you can get your hands on. Go used and your budget would be fine for a small single speaker tube combo that you can push to high volumes and get a SWEET tone.

At a budget where you could afford a Cube 80XL (~$370) or a Line6 Spider IV 150w (~$500), you could afford a half decent tube amp.
Actually, I go by Dave, but there are already too many Daves on this forum.
