May edition.

Registration closed.

GOAL: You have exactly 10 DAYS until May 10th to learn a song, any song of your choice, and record it and upload it (to Youtube or any related site). This should prove some fun and a good time waster and all along your becoming a better guitar player. After all entries have been made we will judge on cleanliness, accuracy, techniques (ex. good harmonics or vibrato) and overall impression.

NOTICE: Do NOT upload your cover to a site where people have to register to view it. Ie: Facebook, etc.

Clock showing what time it is in UK: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=136

Thanks to StewieSwan for this:
To export a GP5 drum track as an Mp3 if I just download the song from UG...

Make sure only the drum track is on (mute the others or press the S button on the drum track in GP) and then go File - Export - MIDI. Once the drum MIDI is exported, find it wherever you put it and open it with itunes. Then right click the track and select "create mp3".If it doesn't say mp3, if it's another kind of format then go Edit - Preferences - General - Import Settings - Import Using Mp3 Encoder and then right click the song and convert to mp3. This is all assuming you have the latest itunes.

Please post the title of the song and band you are choosing and the tier you think it fits in.

NOTICE: I will ignore entries given without a suggested tier.

The Tiers are Easy, Intermediate, and Advanced.

SONGS TO COMPARE DIFFICULTY AGAINST:

Easy: Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
Intermediate: Redneck by Lamb of God
Advanced: Stream of Consciousness by Dream Theater

RULES:
1. Please do not pick a song you already know.
2. There will be a 3 day registration period. Entries submitted late will not be counted, unless they are only an hour or so overdue.
3. The winner receives a larger E-Penis (Courtesy of getting picked No.1)
4. Refer to Goal Post.
5. Refer to Rule No.1!!!

Improv category:
This category, Improvisation, will require you to create a backing track of roughly two minutes in length, and improvising over it in any way you want. The backing track does not have to be recorded (ie. it can be MIDI) but it does have to have been written by you. There are no separate difficulties for this category, but anyone may enter.

You may enter for as many categories as you wish, but you may not enter more than once in the same category. Remember, you must pick songs you do not already know, and you must learn them and record them by the May 10th.

NOTICE: Please do not register if you think it is unlikely that you will be able to submit. Last month we had 38 people enter and only 13 of them actually submitted anything.

I will post the voting threads on May 11th.

Happy Playing. Anyone may enter. Except people who like Twilight

That was a joke.

Not really.

Put me down for Burden by Opeth. I'd probably call it advanced, but give it a listen and judge for yourself if you want.

Fantastic song, one of my favourites by Opeth. I had a look over the tab and I would say it is advanced but only just. If someone disagrees with me let me know, for now I'll put it in advanced.

Im up for this!

Going with Oscillator by The Contortionist

Ill give it an advanced rating just 'cause i think most people would take a few days to learn it all
#8
Not a fan of Christian Metal but I'll do Agape - For Today (advanced), mainly because the intro is ****ing awesome.
I don't know if this is allowed, but could you also put me down for All New Materials - Periphery (also advanced). I'm not doing both but I'm trying to learn both this week and I'll post the best one.

That is, unless someone else wants to do All New Materials of course.
#9
put me down for Impulse by An Endless Sporadic i'd say advanced,
i'm Ginger its fun

I can put you down for both if you are undecided but I can only accept one of them as your final entry.

Had a listen, sounded pretty simple until the insane breakdown and the part after it so this warrants an advanced I'd say.

I want to enter, but I don't know what to play..

Anyone know any intermediate songs in C standard tuning?

Easy for you maybe.

Hahaah I keed I keed. I think I could probably play most of it, except that ****ing scary outro lead.
Check out my band Disturbed

put me down for Alaska - BTBAM

I've known the sweeps and a little of the intro for awhile, would that be a disqualification?

edit:
I believe it'd be advanced.

Bass improv is allowed? Or no?

Okay guys, I have a confession to make. Not really a confession since it's something that's been bugging me for awhile but I've always been in denial about it.

OK so I'll enter for improv as long as you dion't mind me doing it on bass.

I also have no idea what standard everyone else is, so I may look pretty bad

Sign me up, I'm gonna go with H.T. by Tsuneo Imahori (better known as the Trigun theme). I'd say it's intermediate, but if you reckon it's easy then put it in easy

thoughts for an improv?

http://youtu.be/sjscc7Xb_xo

I know it's not technically impressive, but does it have to be?

EDIT: I'm getting video views, so it must be at least partially you guys, someone tell me something

I can't decide between Abstract Art - Born of Osiris and Starfire - Dragonforce, probably either would be intermediate. I'll post later with my decision. Oh how I wish I hadn't taken 7 months off from playing guitar.

And btw, if I don't submit this time, kill me. Contact Rjdusa for some quick and easy ways to poison me.

Can I still enter this?

EDIT: If I can:
Intermediate
Mr. Highway's Thinking About The End - A Day To Remember

DOUBLE EDIT: I didn't realize that song was played in Drop A# And I don't feel like buying thicker strings so I can tune down.
Welcome To The Family - Avenged Sevenfold (Intermediate)
Sorry for changing.

yeah, might as well be my entry, though I'm guessing it's not really what people are looking for in an improv
